Taking and transfer the photos is a popular social activities on the internet, and “to share” is become a very simple thing when we have a convenient technology, but it also turn photos into a cheap information which for transfer and consumption, therefore almost photos are lost nature which is to create recollection and significance in our life. The photos rather than integrate in our environment, we are habitual leave it in a digital space now, however it is a damage of results for us when we can not create recollection and significance on it in our life.
It attempt to invite people to reflect that photos are lost its own original value and significance when we excessive dependence on digitization, and help us to retrieve a habit of create recollection and significance on photos.
Photobox is a printer of wood box exterior and it searches it’s users flickr account for photos that picking one at random then prints the photo out in a two-month period, therefore the user can obtain their photos from his / her own digital space. This project use material and shape is from our life items that its look like a suitcase then integrate in our environment rather than design another shape or a new type. It holds a photo printing cycle is between one to two months then it can make our speed of obtain photos slowly, then make precipitation and thinking moment. The process of use can stimulate people looking back a needs which is to make a picture frame or placed it in living environment.
It will dislodge the convenience and efficiency while in the process of use at this works, then create a precipitate moment which through the complex process that people will generating poetic and then creating meaning in blank part, and the design of the works not only make shape integrate in environment but also make use simply therefore the user will totally foucus on process rather than machine itself.
Little Printer v.s. Photobox
First, Little Printer is conspicuous in our environment of its form, therefore it is not easy to integrate it in your life, and it is pretty clearly that Photobox is more suitable than it in this part. Then is about design of process, there is a very important thing that user who how to get the images from machine, and the design of Little Printer is according to people can get pictures by extraction, however, Photobox print the photos by the passage of time, although both of them can afford the same service but the value is not the same. Last is about how to emerge pictures. The one is emerage as receipt and another one is a photo, both them are convey the different form. We won’t mount the receipt in a picture frame or make memories on it.
