Although It may be kidnapped by functionalism and "Problem-Solving" philosophy in design, the project : Free Energy, Giving form to Local Choices in Energy Use, still did a nice try on how to combine the concepts of randomness of putting energy in physical spaces and the mainstream consensus, saving energy.

The prototype "Energy Tap", by poetically giving a metaphor for the origin of energy as a"tap," it purposes a way of giving open-energy, free for any device, and self-sustaining. I  thought it was the concept of "Freedom" that estrange this prototype from blindly follow the mainstream eco-friendly attitude toward the earth.Freely put the tap anywhere you want, any device you like, while not losing its function in the same time as charging, it elegantly inhabit on the margin of the consensus of being Eco-friendly, fighting against the fossilization of the definition.By simply swirling the handle of the device like manipulating an ice-cream machine, It defamiliarize the normal acts of begging for energy by simply plug-in, plug-out.

Such differences discussed above made me think of the come-back of using films while Digital cameras getting hegemony now. Swirling the handle is no easy work comparing to switch on and off, which is a mainstream method of operation nowadays that become a norm.

I consider the "Energy Tap" as a poetic try on combining a mainstream consensus with a playful but experimental, which contains operative-criticism-attitude within, reflecting upon HCI toward a new ideology that may soon become a subversion.
