Case Study: Photo Box
V.S. Little Printer
Technologies make our living
environment more convenience and quickly. People
have been seeking for “speed”; also enjoy its power. However, our experiential
contacts and the relationship between others may also have been erased from
“speed”. Nowadays, we can transfer photos faster, it seems easier to store a
big scale of our collections but nonsense. “I think, therefore I am” is a
philosophical proposition by René Descartes. Our spirit shall be constant. If
we don’t have time to think, we could not have critical reflection in our
lives.
Photobox just likes a memorial
device. Users can “live with” the artifact for a long period of time. It creates
photos randomly and infrequently, so that we can have some unexpected encounter
by the digital photo collections in our future days. Through the material of
wooden case and the memorial story, that we can have a rest time to calm our
mind and refresh our feelings in daily life.
On the contrary, people can make choices by using little
printer. Little printer can be a character exists at your home. You can make
decisions to set the time that when you want to print. The recomposed layouts
let the information be more useful, meaningful and diverse possibility. You may
take the little memos on the way going to the station, or stick them anywhere
to remind you something in another point of view.
As being slow technology, both of the little
printer and photobox welcome the meanings emerging through the process. Giving us a chance to make our
photos or information in more meaningful way. But maybe the functions and the small
appearance of the little printer let it more flexible, and expendable to suit
our mobile life.
